چکیده

This paper proposes a new spectral estimation technique based on rational covariance extension with degree constraint. The technique finds a rational spectral density function that approximates given spectral density data under constraint on a covariance sequence. Spectral density approximation problems are formulated as nonconvex optimization problems with respect to a Schur polynomial. To formulate the approximation problems, the least-squares sum is considered as a distance. Properties of optimization problems and numerical algorithms to solve them are explained. Numerical examples illustrate how the methods discussed in this paper are useful in stochastic model reduction and stochastic process modeling. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Local Least Squares Spectral Filtering and Combination by Harmonic Functions on the Sphere

Least squares spectral combination is a well-known technique in physical geodesy. The established technique either suffers from the assumption of no correlations of errors between degrees or from a global optimisation of the variance or mean square error of the estimator. Today Earth gravitational models are available together with their full covariance matrices to rather high degrees, extra in...

Fast algorithms for least-squares-based minimum variance spectral estimation

The minimum variance (MV) spectral estimator is a robust high-resolution frequencydomain analysis tool for short data records. The traditional formulation of the minimum variance spectral estimation (MVSE) depends on the inverse of a Toeplitz autocorrelation matrix, for which a fast computational algorithm exists that exploits this structure. This paper extends the MVSE approach to two data-onl...

Degree Reduction of Disk Rational Bézier Curves Using Multi-objective Optimization Techniques

In this paper, we start by introducing a novel disk rational Bézier based on parallel projection, whose properties are also discussed. Then applying weighted least squares, multiobjective optimization techniques and constrained quadratic programming, we achieve multi-degree reduction of this kind of disk rational Bézier curve. The paper also gives error estimation and shows some numerical examp...

Multidimensional Rational Covariance Extension with Applications to Spectral Estimation and Image Compression

The rational covariance extension problem (RCEP) is an important problem in systems and control occurring in such diverse fields as control, estimation, system identification, and signal and image processing, leading to many fundamental theoretical questions. In fact, this inverse problem is a key component in many identification and signal processing techniques and plays a fundamental role in ...

A Homotopy Approach to Rational Covariance Extension with Degree Constraint

The solutions to the Rational Covariance Extension Problem (RCEP) are parameterized by the spectral zeros. The rational filter with a specified numerator solving the RCEP can be determined from a known convex optimization problem. However, this optimization problem may become ill-conditioned for some parameter values. A modification of the optimization problem to avoid the illconditioning is pr...
